In lieu of our annual in-person Spring English conference, the English department is now accepting submissions from students for a new 2020 Spring English Conference online launching June 1!  This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their work and to share it with a positive, supportive community of DePaul faculty and peers. The 13th Annual Miller Audio Competition has been extended through April 30. Prizes remain the same: the winner in each category of Poetry, Prose, Audio Documentary, and Humor receives $1,000 along with publication on Missouri Review‘s website and promotion on their social media platforms. Runners-up in each category will also have their work published on the website in the summer of 2020. The English Department is looking for student writing for inclusion in the English Department newsletter. Photos are optional but welcome. If you would like to be included in the newsletter, please send your work the Department Assistant, Marc Schell at mschell2@depaul.edu Please note: Newsletter contribution is voluntary. We are not currently offering compensation for student writing.

Miami Book Fair is offering fellowships in Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction to support writers working to complete a book-length project within a year. The fellowships include a $41K stipend, mentorship with a nationally established author, and strong literacy community support in Miami. There is no application fee. In the interest of being more accessible during this time, Black Warrior Review is making Secret Boyfriend (the latest edition of their online magazine, Boyfriend Village) open to FREE submissions until Wednesday, March 25 at 11:59 pm. Boyfriend Village accepts fiction, poetry, nonfiction, hybrid, visual, and multimedia art, as well as sound collage, video, games, and more. The complete guidelines and call for submissions can be found here. The Own Voices Chapbook Prize is now open for submissions!   The Own Voices Chapbook Prize is an annual contest dedicated to the discovery of two timely chapbook length poetry collections from poets of color who are yet to publish a full length book. The winning collections will be published in a print run of 250 copies, and the poets will receive $500 and 25 author copies. Post, a queer run, independent literary journal featuring works by queer artists and writers, is currently accepting poetry!  In honor of poetry month (upcoming in April), Post is seeking poetry focused on queer identity, relationships, experiences, and politics. Not just your love poems: submit your experiments, your musings, your polished worry stones, and your secrets shaped into song. Deadline for submission is March 15th, 2020. LiveWire, an online Literary Arts Journal from Southern California, is currently open for submissions for their Spring 2020 issue! LiveWire publishes work that reflects a diverse array of voices. TellUs, the literary magazine of the Collaborative for Multilingual Writing and Research (CMWR) within the University Center for Writing-based Learning, is now open for submissions through May 1st! In the past, CMWR has published the works of multilingual and multicultural writers/artists in Global Voices, an online magazine. The Colorism Healing Writing Contest is now open for submissions! Colorism Healing is an international initiative that uses creative writing and community literacy to address the issue of colorism. The submission period for the 2020 CHWC is Saturday, February 1 – Sunday, March 15. All are eligible and welcome to submit original poems, essays, or stories that are relevant to the topic of colorism. Visit their website for more information.
