HerStry, an online literary magazine and writing community for women based in Milwaukee, is open for 2020 submissions! HerStry accepts both personal essays (not paying) and monthly theme essays (paying). They welcome women identifying writers of all levels and talents to tell their stories. They accept all types of stories as long as they are true and about you. No topic is off limits! Women of color and LGBTQ writers are especially encouraged to submit. New Deadline: January 10, 2020.   Disquiet is now accepting contest submissions for The Disquiet Literary Prize for writing in any genre. Claremont Graduate University’s poetry journal Foothill is open for submissions!  Find more details below and on the attached submissions flyer. Submissions of up to six unpublished, English-language-based poems composed in any poetic genre or form are welcome from poets actively enrolled in a graduate program anywhere in the world. Graduate-student poets writing in a foreign language are welcome to submit, so long as the work is translated into English. We will happily give the translator credit. Sonora Review is still open to contest and non-contest submissions for Issue 77 until November 15th! Sonora Review is run entirely by graduate students in the MFA program at the University of Arizona. Thin Air, a MFA run literary journal at Northern Arizona University, is now accepting work for their online and printed publications through Submittable. Their print issue– published annually each spring– will accept submissions until December 1, 2019. Nowhere Magazine, a literary travel-writing publication, is now open for submissions to their Fall contests! Founded in 2008, Nowhere awards two authors per year $1,000 each for their winning entry into their spring and fall writing contests. Miami University in Ohio to invites students to submit to OxMag, their graduate student-run literary magazine. They are seeking submissions of art, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, with a particular interest in those voices who have been traditionally underrepresented. Submissions are open until October 15th.
