Submissions for the Luminarts Fellowship for excellence in creative writing are due this Friday, May 6th. Writers submit two pages of stand-alone work or an excerpt in categories of poetry or prose and have the opportunity to win $5,000. On Wednesday, May 4 the Department of English will be hosting a career panel directed by Chicago Women in Publishing members from 6:00-7:00 pm in Arts and Letter Hall Room 308. See the flyer below for information on panelists or email Professor Chris Green for further questions.

Applications are due on April 22 for the 2016 Mailer Poetry Fellowship. Hosted by The Norman Mailer Center and The Norman Mailer Writers Colony, the fellowship this year will take place July 9 to July 31 at the prestigious Pepperdine University campus in Malibu, California. Crook & Folly, DePaul University’s award-winning, all-student, journal of literature and art, seeks applications from graduate and undergraduate students for two positions as 2017 Editors-in-Chief. The new editors will begin work planning for the new year late this Spring 2016 and will hire their section editors during Fall quarter 2017. For the fall, winter, and spring quarters the MA programs in English and Writing and Publishing offer Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize outstanding academic achievement of students in the department’s two graduate programs in English. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for up to two courses per quarter taken toward the MA in English or MA in Writing and Publishing degree. Continuing their Rogue Workshop Series, geared toward developing career skills through narrative techniques, the Career Center will be hosting “Stories Before Interviews.” The event will take place Thursday, April 14 and will focus upon developing storytelling skills that are applicable in a professional interview. DePaul professor Miles Harvey will be one of the faculty at the University of New Orleans’ creative writing workshops in Cork, Ireland this summer. The program takes place June 17 – July 16. Find out more information on the flyer below, or visit the program’s website here.

Submissions are open until March 31 for the Florida Keys Flash Fiction Contest. The contest winner will receive $1,500 air travel card and accommodations in a residency cottage at The Studios of Key West between July 5 and July 31. A $500 stipend as well as passes and admission to various events during the Hemingway Days festival set for July 19-25. Ten of the residency days include an opportunity to write in the colonial estate that Hemingway lived and worked in throughout most of the 1930’s. The eleventh annual Schiff Foundation Fellowship for Critical Architectual Writing is now open for proposals. The fellowship program, administered by the Department of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago, was established to engage young writers and scholars in critical discussions about the built environment and is open to graduate students currently enrolled in coursework at Chicago-area universities. Though the fellowship is focused on architecture, English students with research interests that converge with art theory, materiality, and space are encouraged to consider applying.
