September 24-30 is Banned Books Week!

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers — in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Graduate Night at the Museum

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is hosting a night at the DePaul Art Museum(DPAM). The event includes a tour of the exhibits, hors d`oeuvres, drinks and an artwork scavenger hunt. Free Entry to the New American Writers Museum

The American Writers Museum, which opened Thursday in downtown Chicago, is offering special free entry to DePaul English students. The museum will be hosting WGN’s TV’s Around Town and during the session from 7:45 AM to 10:00 AM this Friday, May 26 when it is offering the free admission. Tuesday: Antiracist Workshop with SURJ

Next Tuesday, May 16, the Women’s Center will be holding an antiracist conversation and workshop sponsored by the Chicago chapter of Showing Up For Racial Justice (SURJ). The SURJ team will guide participants on the history of SURJ and racial justice organizing in Chicago and then go through skills training on alternatives to policing and calling the police. One the first museum’s dedicated explicitly to celebrating the work, lives, and legacies of American writers will be opening in Chicago this month! The American Writers Museum will open to the public on May 18. This Monday, May 8 the Field Museum will be hosting “Where Will Millennials Take Us: A New Generation Transforms the Gender Structure” by Dr. Barbara J. 2017 Cervantes Symposium

The 17th Annual Chicago Cervantes Symposium will be held Friday, April 21, 2017. The event – sponsored by The Cervantes Society of America, The Newberry Center for Renaissance Studies, and DePaul University – is free and open to the public.
