The LAS Graduate Student Conference is happening this Friday! The conference showcases work from graduate students across the university, and is a unique opportunity to see the projects your DePaul colleagues have been working on. Students are especially encouraged to support their fellow English students presenting. During session I from 1:30-2:45, Mihaela Stoica (MAE),  Jordan Weber (MAE), and Katelynn Moxon (MAWP) will be presenting in McGowan South Room 103. Joshua Brown (MAE) will be presenting during session II from 3:45-5:00 in McGowan South Room 105. Take time to celebrate the work of your peers!

Its the English Department’s favorite time of year! The official call-for-submissions for the 8th Annual Spring English Conference (SPEC) has been released! The Spring English Conference is a unique opportunity for DePaul English students from across the entire department – graduate, undergraduate, creative, literary studies, publishing, major, and minors – to come together and share their work in a friendly, comradely environment. The British Modernities Group (BMG) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites graduate students to present papers at its twelfth annual interdisciplinary conference, “Changing the Subject: Subjectivity, Habitus, Behavior, and the End of the Subject.” The conference focuses on bring together work in ontology, literature, philosophy, psychology, and related fields to consider how scholars have responded to and interpreted questions of subjectivity and perception. The deadline for applications to Campus 1871 has been extended to this Friday, February 10. The weekend-long event takes place from March 31- April 2 and will be attended by universities across the Illinois and the Chicagoland area. At Campus 1871 you and a team will pitch and then develop a unique idea for a business startup that can solve one the many pressing questions of today. The deadline to apply for scholarships to the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference is approaching! Official conference applications are due May 1, but scholarship applications are due February 20. The conference takes place this summer June 19-25, at Bemidji State University in small town northern Minnesota. The conference fee is $550, however, several $300 scholarships will be awarded based upon need and literary merit. Apply for scholarships online here. The deadline for submissions and abstracts to the 25th annual Midwestern Conference on Literature, Language and Media (MCLLM) is at the end of this month, Friday, January 27! Hosted annually by Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, MCLLM is seeking proposals for 15-minute paper from individuals and panels on humanities research – especially graduate student submissions. The Fourth Annual Interdisciplinary LAS Graduate Student Conference is happening this spring and the deadline to submit is fast approaching! The conference takes place March 3 on the Lincoln Park Campus and is an opportunity for graduate students from across the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to showcase their work and interact with work from students across departments. Students may propose individual papers or poster presentations. On November 11-13 the University of Illinois at Chicago will be hosting the 2016 Chicago Colloquium on Digital Humanities and Computer Sciences (DHCS). Registration for the event is free for DePaul students. The weekend includes a workshop at the Newberry library, the keynote speaker is Geoffrey Rockwell, and multiple DePaul professors will be presenting. The Loyola University Chicago Victorian Society (LUCVS), would like to invite you their first annual day conference, Past and Present: New Directions in Victorian Society on October 29th at Loyola’s Lakeshore campus. Conference presentations will cover a number of issues concerning how the field can and should study Victorian literature. Plenary speakers include representatives from the V21 collective and the keynote speaker is Dr. Elaine Hadley from University of Chicago. There is no registration fee.
