Call for Submissions: A True, Personal Story by May 17th

True Stories En Vivo invites storytellers to submit a true personal story that centers on the following themes:

  • A time when you realized you’re “living in the hyphen” (between two worlds).
  • A time when you were overcome with a feeling of acceptance or belonging.
  • A time when you stepped into an identity you didn’t always embrace.

The Nasiona is teaming up with Tamarindo to consider entries for publication in our respective online platforms and podcasts. They are looking for true stories between 700-1200 words.

Four top storytellers will also be chosen to perform their true stories before a live audience via Zoom at “True Stories En Vivo” on June 10, 2021, at 5:00 pm PT, co-hosted by both Tamarindo (Ana Sheila Victorino and Brenda Gonzalez) and The Nasiona (Julián Esteban Torres López). True Stories En Vivo will feature special guest storyteller Melissa Lozada-Oliva, Guatelombian (Guatemalan-Colombian) American poet and screenwriter.

They especially encourage stories from folks that relate to one or more of these identities: Latina/e/o/x, BIPOC, being mixed-race, LGBTQIAA+, from an immigrant family or diaspora community, folks with chronic conditions, and/or disabled folks. Tell us how you connect to any of these experiences, if at all.

Rules for Submissions

  • Work must be original. We accept unpublished or previously published work for this series.
  • Submit up to two stories.
  • Ensure your piece is in .doc or .docx format.
