The aim of the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize is both to celebrate the best of new short fiction and to give winners the most visibility possible for their writing. That’s why we’ve teamed up with fifteen different literary and artistic institutions to offer not only a cash prize and writing retreats but to ensure that all our shortlisters have the opportunity to be published in multiple print and online journals, have their work put in front of literary agents, and perform in multiple countries.
ACM Residency In 2023, Another Chicago Magazine will award a free multi-week residency in Belfast, Maine, which is on the coast, about two hours north of Portland and one hour southeast of Bangor. S.L. Wisenberg, ACM editor and author of the forthcoming Juniper prizewinner, The Wandering Womb, is the final judge. Apply between January 15 and March 17; the portal closes at 120 applicants. When we re-mix something, we re-imagine what it is, what it was, or what it has the capacity to be. Bridge is a Chicago-based not for profit publishing and programming organization. Currently they are looking for submissions specifically in poetry and fiction for both their hardbound annual journal and their weekly magazine. Deadline is January 15. Bridge is a truly unique publication that also takes submissions in visual art, cultural criticism, design, and hybrid work. The Brooklyn based, independent publisher, Radix Media is currently accepting personal essay collections from emerging writers of color for this annual contest. The recipient of The Megaphone Prize will receive a $1000 reward, 20 author copies, and a publicity cycle dedicated to their debut.
