The Blueshift Journal is now accepting submissions to their 4th issue. Cooper Street, a literary magazine run by MFA students at Rutgers-Camden, is currently looking for fiction, non-fiction and poetry for its fourth issue, slated for January publication. Priority deadline was Friday, November 27th, but submissions are still being accepted. Cooper Street is primarily interested in stories surrounding cities and/or urban issues, particularly those set in the Northeast. But will consider all subjects and genres if the work is interesting and strong. Purdue University has announced a call for submissions to a new symposium focusing on interdisciplinary research in the fields of linguistics and language use. They invite submissions of original research papers from all areas of linguistics, applied linguistics, literature, second language studies, and cultural studies of any language or language group to be presented in 20-minute talks or posters. Authors Roxanne Gay and Ashley C. Ford, in conjunction with Harper Perennial, are compiling an anthology Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture. The collection focuses upon the often diminished experiences of victims and survivors of rape culture and sexual violence. They are accepting submissions 2,500 to 7,500 words in length. Independent publisher Black Lawrence Press is now open for submissions for their fall reading period. During their November open reading period Black Lawrence accepts submissions in the following categories: novel, novella, short story collection (full-length and chapbook), poetry (full-length and chapbook), biography & cultural studies, translation (from the German and the French), and creative nonfiction. Submit your work to Black Lawrence online where you can also learn about their ongoing writing contest. The open reading period ends in December and submissions are due by November 30th.

Independent publisher Glimmer Train is now accepting submissions for their Short Story Award for New Writers contest. The contest is exclusively open to writers whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in any print publication with a circulation over 5,000. The due date for submissions is November 30th (with a one week grace period). First place wins $1,500, publication in Glimmer Train Stories and 10 copies. The Writer is now accepting fiction submissions for their “Two Roads Diverge” short story contest. The contest asks for a 2,000 word short story responding to two quotes from novelist Colum McCann who will be the contest judge. Prizes include: $1,000 cash prize for the winner and publication in March 2016 print issue of The Writer, runner-up and third place will receive cash prize of $500 and $250 respectively and publication on The Writer‘s website. The literary magazine of Rowan University’s Master of Arts in Writing graduate program, Glassworks is now accepting submissions for their fall 2016 print issues. Glassworks publishes nonfiction, ficiton poetry, hybrid pieces, craft essays, new media, and art both digitally and in print. The deadline to submit is December 15, 2015. Submission guidelines can be found here. Glassworks also publishes flash fiction, prose poetry, and micro essays in their online edition Flash Glass Monthly which accepts submissions on a year-round rolling basis.

Black Lawrence Press will soon be closed for submissions to their Fall 2015 Black River Chapbook Competition. The deadline for the Fall 2015 Competition is October 31! The Black River chapbook Competition is a semi-annual prize for a chapbook of short fiction or poems open to new, emerging, or established writers. Entries should be between 16 and 36 pages in length. The winner will receive $500 and publication. The submission fee is $15.
