The 2016 Saints and Sinners LGBT Literary Festival‘s Writing Contest’s Deadline has been extended to November 2, 2015. The Saints and Sinners Literary Festival was founded in 2003 as a new initiative designed as way to reach the community with information about HIV/AIDS, particularly disseminating prevention messages via the writers, thinkers and spokes-people of the LGBT community while celebrating the literary arts. Callaloo, the premier literary journal of the African Diaspora, is now accepting applications for the 2016 Brown Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop (CCWW). They invite submissions of poetry or fiction for admission consideration for this two-week workshop, which will be hosted by the Department of Africana Studies and the Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice at Brown University, June 12-25, 2016. Thursday, October 22 at 5:00 pm is the deadline to submit to The Guild Literary Complex for their 2015 prose awards for short fiction and non-fiction. Every fall, the Guild Complex acknowledges emerging and established writers via a judged competition and recognition at the historic Chopin Theatre in Chicago. A cash prize of $500 in each category (fiction and non-fiction) will be awarded to an original unpublished work. This Sunday marks the beginning of the 2015-2016 cycle of Narrative Magazine’s poem of the week contest. Authors are paid $25 (reprints) to $50 for a selected poem, a chance to win $150 if selected as one of the years Top Five Poems of the Week, and eligibility for the $4,000 Narrative Prize. Each week the new Poem of the Week is emailed to Narrative’s 200,000 readers and listed on their website. The PEN/Fusion Emerging Writers Prize has extended their deadline until October 26th. The prize recognizes a promising young writer under the age of 35 for an unpublished work of fiction that addresses a global and/or multicultural issue. The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize and be honored at the 2016 PEN Awards Ceremony next spring. Eligible applicants will have the chance to have their work read by distinguished writers and editors Marie Arana, Manuel Gonzales, and Johnny Temple of Akashic Books. Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art is now accepting original work in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for the Issue 54 Writing Contest. The Miami University Press is now accepting submissions through October 15th for the 2016 Novella Prize. Submissions must be between 18,000 and 40,000 words and require a $25 reading fee. The Novella Prize winner is offered $750 against royalties, a standard contract, publication, and ten copies of the book. MAE students: Chicago’s Newberry Library Center for Renaissance Studies is calling for submissions to their 2016 Multidisciplinary Graduate Student Conference. They invite abstracts for 20-minute papers from master’s or PhD students from any discipline on any medieval, Renaissance, or early modern topic in Europe, the Americas, or the Mediterranean world. Punctuate is a new magazine of creative nonfiction, published online, and once annually in print, by Columbia College Chicago. The first issue will be launched online on October 15th. Punctuate accepts submissions year-round in order to release online content on a weekly basis. Black Lawrence Press is now accepting submissions for their Fall 2015 Black River Chapbook Competition.
