Literary magazine Crazyhorse is now accepting submissions for their context in ficiton, nonfiction, and poetry writing! Winners receive $2,000 and publication in Crazyhorse. All entries will be considered for publication, and more than one manuscript may be entered. Their is a $20 entry fee  which includes a one-year subscription to Crazyhorse. Submissions are due Sunday, January 31st! Send entries here.

Illinois State University’s English Studies Program has announced a call for proposals for their 2016 graduate student Word’s Worth Conference: Hum(Animals). The conference encourages a broad ranges of proposals specifically in the field of English Literature, but they also encourage creative writing submissions! Word’s Worth is configured as an early graduate student conference, so first year students are highly encouraged to apply! Another reminder that the deadline to submit to the the Third Annual LAS Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference is this Friday, January 15th. The conference takes place Friday, March 4 from 12:00-5:00 pm on the Lincoln Park Campus. Find further details and the submission link here. All LAS graduate students are eligible. This conference is an opportunity to share your work with other students and faculty across departments and programs. The Graduate History Department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst is now welcoming proposals for its 2016 interdisciplinary conference, “Putting History to Work.” The conference invites submissions across a range of fields, themes, and historical periods. It will be held from March 5-6 and includes a panel discussion with Jim Grossman the Executive Director of the American Historical Society as well as a networking dinner for conference presenters. The 24th annual Midwestern Conference on Literature, Langauage and Media (MCLLM) is currently accepting proposals for 15 minute research presentations. MCLLM encourages proposals from a broad range of topics, particularly ones that explore the conferences 2016 theme: Keep the Change. Proposals of 200-500 words will be accepted until January 29 and may be submitted to mcllm@niu.edu with name, institutional affiliation, email, and phone number. The final deadline for Black Lawrence Press’s annual prize for unpublished novels, The Big Moose Prize, is fast apporaching. The prize is open to new and emerging as well as established writers. The contest winner will receive book publication, a $1,000 cash award, and ten copies of the book. The Department of Comparative Literature at Indiana University is pleased to announce the Second Annual Comparative Literature Graduate Conference, titled “Crystal Queer.” The conference will be held on Friday, April 1 through Saturday, April 2nd in Bloomington, Indiana. 300 word abstracts are due by January 30th, and can be sent to complit.iu@gamil.com. Magazine Jewish Currents: Activist Politics and Art, is accepting submissions for the 2016 Raynes Poetry Competition. Poets can submit up to three poems related to this years theme “Urge.” The first prize is $1,000, with two runners-up receiving $180. The Blueshift Journal is now accepting submissions to their 4th issue. Blueshift is a student-run, international, tri-annual publication, with two online issues and one print issue, available free of charge. Deadline for issue 4 is January 1st. Cooper Street, a literary magazine run by MFA students at Rutgers-Camden, is currently looking for fiction, non-fiction and poetry for its fourth issue, slated for January publication. Priority deadline was Friday, November 27th, but submissions are still being accepted. Cooper Street is primarily interested in stories surrounding cities and/or urban issues, particularly those set in the Northeast. But will consider all subjects and genres if the work is interesting and strong. Purdue University has announced a call for submissions to a new symposium focusing on interdisciplinary research in the fields of linguistics and language use. They invite submissions of original research papers from all areas of linguistics, applied linguistics, literature, second language studies, and cultural studies of any language or language group to be presented in 20-minute talks or posters.
