Modern Languages and Studio X have invited Isabella Magni, Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Newberry Library, to lead the faculty and graduate student workshop Making a Digital Edition: Introduction to Text Encoding and the Petrarchive Project on Friday, May 18, 10AM-12PM (IdeaLab2 in the library, JTR 207).   Breakfast will be served before the workshop. The hope is to gather a small cohort of interested faculty and graduate students for this exciting, hands-on experience. The Langston Hughes Society will be holding a special roundtable on the poetry of social justice as well as their annual luncheon at the College Language Association Convention in Chicago next month. The luncheon is a highly anticipated event, this year featuring award-winning poet, Nikky Finney.   Electronic registration is open on their website at http://www.langstonhughessociety.org/.

The OCWW  is inviting all MAE and MAWP students free of charge to a weekly meeting of the most prestigious writing workshop in the Chicago Area. Off Campus Writers Workshop (OCWW) is the oldest continuously running writing workshop in the country. They hold weekly workshops with published authors in different genres, plus screenwriters, and agents. A note from Samantha Hoffman, executive director of the Chicago Writers Association Writers Conference regarding scholarships – deadline is 1/19. and the application process is relatively fast: I’m reaching out because we have writing conference scholarships to award to two students, two educators and two others.
