Next month, Goodman Theatre will be presenting The Winter’s Tale (May 4-June 9) written by William Shakespeare and directed by Artistic Director, Robert Falls. A jealous king accuses his wife of infidelity, setting off a calamitous series of events. Young Chicago Authors puts on the largest poetry slam festival in the world, Louder Than A Bomb (LTAB) during the months of February and March. Based on the success of LTAB, they have extended the competition and community to young adults ages 18-25 and created Louder Than a Bomb University (LTABU). The competition runs March 8th and 9th 2019 at Chicago State University. CWIP is hosting an informal dialogue with Doug Seibold, President of Agate Publishing, at EvolveHer on Wednesday, February 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Doug Seibold is an integral part of the Chicagoland publishing community and has a wealth of knowledge from working in trade, educational, and nonprofit publishing and media for over thirty years. He founded Agate in 2003, started Agate Development in 2005, acquired Surrey Books in 2006, and created the Agate Digital and Midway Books imprints in 2012. FREE TICKETS to all English students for the show Verified Laughs every Wednesday at 8pm from now until the end of October. Verified Laughs is a social media based stand up comedy show where the audience votes on the winner through Instagram and Facebook after watching a series of five minute sets from some of the best comedians in the city. June 2018 MAWP grad Cynthia Nwakudu is a finalist for the 2018 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award! The Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Awards (GBOMA) is an annual poetry competition founded by Pulitzer Prize winning Chicago poet Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000). The competition culminates in a live semi-finals event at which the top contestants selected by guest judges perform their original poems in live competition for a $500 prize awarded by the audience.
